4th Summer Course of the UNESCO Housing Chair – Presentation of the book series on housing (“Derecho de la Vivienda”)

The 4th Edition of the Summer Course of the UNESCO Housing Chair of the University Rovira i Virgili took place in the city of Valls, Tarragona (Old Convent of Carmen), last June 15th. Researchers from the Chair, visiting researchers, such as Dr. Padraic Kenna or Dr. Brano Glumac, and representatives from both the Chair’s partners and the Valls City Council, which actively collaborated in its organization, took part in the Course, which dealt with topics related to collaborative housing and the urban environment, such as housing and blockchain, cohousing, condo-hotels and urban regeneration. It was presented the book series on housing (“Derecho de la Vivienda”), published by the prestigious Spanish publisher Tirant lo Blanch in collaboration with the UNESCO Housing Chair. The first two volumes of the series are already available, which deal with housing tenures and reverse mortgages (http://www.tirant.com/editorial/colecciones/derecho-de-la-vivienda).

Cambridge Center Workshop for Property Law 25th and 26th of May

Dr. Héctor Simón attended the “Regulatory Issues in Property Law Conference 2018” on 25 and 26 May 2018. This Congress, organized by the Cambridge Center for Property Law, brought together experts in property law and professionals from United Kingdom and other countries so as to discuss the most important challenges currently facing property rights, urban planning and environmental law.

International Conference held on 10th and 11th May 2018 at the University of Groningen

Dr. Héctor Simón attended the International Conference” New perspectives on acquisitive prescription”, which was held on 10th and 11th May 2018 at the University of Groningen. Dr. Simón presented a paper on the relationship between the different Land Registration systems in Europe and the institution of acquisitive prescription on land. This Conference was organised within the framework of the Group on acquisitive prescription of the Common Core of European Private Law (http: //www.common- core.org).

Simulation experience about homelessness awareness

On Tuesday 5th of March the UNESCO Housing Chair developed the beta test of the simulation experience El Umbral in La Salle school (based on the documentary film of the same name and the 2016 report asked for by the European Commission (https://goo.gl/goNzWt)) about homelessness with success.

Seventh international scientific seminar: ‘’Polices, accessibility and housing finance’’

On Wednesday 9th of March took place at the Rovira i Virgili University the seventh international scientific seminar: ‘’Polices, accessibility and housing finance’’, organized by the UNESCO Housing Chair. Several experts, professionals, and academics attended this workshop.

The Seminar started with a speech delivered by Prof. Dr. Christoph U. Schmid, of the University of Bremen, which was about the coherence of the housing national policies in Europe, specially the harmonization of the public and private elements. The second speech was in charge of Ms. Laura López Demarbre, Director of the Mutua de Propietarios Foundation in which was analysed the relation between the situation of the housing buildings and the households living there, specially disabled and elderly people. Finally, the last speech was delivered by the Dr. Guillem Fernández, member of Coop57, a cooperative of etic and social financial services, specially related with the financing of housing cooperatives. The seminar finished with a round table in which the attendants could discuss the topics presented.

Homelessness Seminar held in Can Massó; (Reus) to improve the assistance to people at risk of housing exclusion.

Last Tuesday 24th of April a network to assist people at risk of housing was presented in Reus. This event was supported by Montserrat Vilella, councillor of the social welfare department of the Reus City Council, as well as other persons and entities related to this field.

Prof. Dr. Sergio Nasarre Aznar, Civil Law Full Professor and director of the UNESCO Housing Chair of URV, and Ms. Núria Lambea Llop, presented the European Study entitled Pilot Project – Promoting protection of the right to housing – Homelessness prevention in the context of evictions. This project was developed by the UNESCO Housing Chair and other international experts, covering the right to housing in Europe and the relationship between evictions and homelessness. Other entities from this network also participated and proposed different ways to help homeless people. The aim of this event is to create synergies between social entities to be able to help homeless people in their process to improve their personal autonomy and their social and interpersonal relationships.  

Prof. Dr. Sergio Nasarre participated at the second edition of Speakeasy: uses and consumptions of housing.

On Thursday 12th of April, Prof. Dr. Sergio Nasarre Aznar, director of the UNESCO Housing Chair of URV, was invited to participate at the second edition of Speakeasy which took place in Travessera de Gràcia (Barcelona). This event was organized by Monapart real estate agency in Barcelona, and several experts in the field of collaborative economy discussed about current issues related to the uses and consumptions of housing.

Researchers of the UNESCO Housing Chair participated at the workshop of Mambre Foundation (Fundació Mambré)

On Thursday 12th of April Fundació Mambré organised a workshop on new ways of accessing to housing, where some of the researchers of the UNESCO Chair participated. The meeting was opened by Mr. Manuel Lecha, President of the Foundation. Then, Prof. Dr. Sergio Nasarre Aznar, director of the UNESCO Housing Chair of URV, Dr. Rosa Maria Garcia Teruel, post-doctoral researcher of the UNESCO Housing Chair and Ms. Núria Lambea Llop, pre-doctoral researcher at the UNESCO Housing Chair, delivered three speeches about the right to housing, tenancy law, renovations in lieu of rent, and good practices in the management of social housing. The workshop closed with a round table about the current functioning of the Foundation and possible suggestions to follow in a near future.

 

 

 

Third Interdisciplinary workshop; Right to housing, international protection of mortgage debtors, and housing and citizenship.

On Tuesday 10thof April took place at the Rovira i Virgili University the third interdisciplinary workshop: ‘’Right to housing, international protection of mortgage debtors, and housing and citizenship’’ organized by the UNESCO Housing Chair. Several experts, professionals, and academics attended this workshop.

The workshop started with a speech delivered by Dr. Immaculada Ribas Algueró, director of the Legal Service of the Catalonia’s Housing Agency, which was about the Act 8/2007 and other amendments and rules in the field of right to housing. The second speech was in charge of Dr. Federic Adán Doménech associate professor of Procedural Law at the Rovira i Virgili University and researcher of the UNESCO Housing Chair, in which the judicial problems of the floor clauses in consumer contracts was analysed. The last speech was delivered by the Dr. Diana Marín Consarnau, associate professor of Private International Law at the Rovira i Virgili University. She explained the golden visa around Europe, that is to say, the rights of residence and nationality as a mechanism to boost real estate investment. This seminar finished with a round table in which the attendants could discuss the topics presented.
