Seminar about the Sixth Book of the Catalan Civil Code in the Bar Association of Tarragona

On 28th of February 2018 took place the Seminar about the modifications of the VI book of the Catalan Civil Code, concerning the obligations and contracts, organised by the Bar Association of Tarragona in collaboration with the Urban Property Chamber of Tarragona and vLex editors. More than seventy people attended to the Seminar. Dr. Héctor Simón Moreno, researcher at the UNESCO Housing Chair of Rovira i Virgili University and Civil law professor of this University, was invited to speak at the seminar about the new regulation of the sale contract and the mandate contract in the Catalan Civil Code.

Prof. Sergio Nasarre, was invited to the SHAPE workshop in Oxford University

“Last 23th March 2018, Prof. Sergio Nasarre was invited to speak at the SHAPE workshop ‘Building governance and energy efficiency: mapping the inter-disciplinary challenge’ chaired by Prof. Susan Bright at the Faculty of Law of the University of Oxford. The workshop covered interesting case studies involving condominiums that have initiative improvements in their energetic efficiency, which were followed by a lively discussion among interdisciplinary academics -lawyers, economists, sociologists and phsycologists- and practitioners”.

International Seminar ”Socio-technical aspects of the circular and collaborative economy”

Last Friday 16th of March 2018 took place at the Rovira i Virgili University the International Seminar ‘’Socio-technical aspects of the circular and collaborative economy’’ organized by the UNESCO Housing Chair of this University. It was well attended by 70 researchers, professionals and academics from 15 countries. The Seminar started with a keynote speech by Prof. Gabriela Avram, director of the COST initiative ‘’From sharing to caring’’. Then, a parallel workshop took place, counting 40 papers’ presentations about collaborative tourism, collaborative mobility, co-working, platforms and their finance and housing and collaborative cities. In the afternoon session, there was a round table with academics and professionals of national and international relevance in this field. Finally, conclusions were drawn and were discussed with attendants.

Première of the documentary ”El Umbral”

The première of ‘’El Umbral’’ [The threshold] in Tarragona took place in the the Municipal Institute of Education of Tarragona. It is a documentary film produced by the UNESCO Housing Chair of URV about evictions and homelessness. Members of the municipality, third sector entities and academics participated on this event. The première was such a success that some people couldn’t get a seat. This documentary film aims at raising awareness among the population and public authorities of the effects of evictions and homelessness. It puts faces to the results of the report asked for by the European Comission and co-cordinated by researchers of the Housing Chair, and directed by Dr. Padraic Kenna, which is available here.

Première of the documentary El Umbral

On Thursday 1st of February in Cal Massó (Reus) took place the première of ”El Umbral” [The threshold], a documentary film produced by the UNESCO Housing Chair of URV. Kenna and co-cordinated by researchers of the Housing Chair, and asked for by the European Commission, which is available here.

European day of mediation

On january 27th 2018, we will be celebrating the European day of mediation with the mediator and psychologist Enric Vives, who will present the project ‘Tots som àrbitres’, project that won the research felowship Auriga Fvsvs 2015 and was chosen as a model by the Tarragonès Sports Council to enhance values within school sports.

The UNESCO Housing Chair contributes to the book “Tenancy Law and Housing Policy in Europe Towards Regulatory Equilibrium”

Tenancy law has developed in all EU member states for decades, or even centuries, but constitutes a widely blank space in comparative and European law. This book, (edited by Christoph U. Schmid, Centre of European Law and Politics, Bremen University in Germany) fills an important gap in the literature by considering the diverse and complex panorama of housing policies, markets and their legal regulation across Europe. Expert contributors argue that that while unification is neither politically desired nor opportune, a European recommendation of best practices including draft rules and default contracts implementing a regulatory equilibrium would be a rewarding step forward.

The City Council of Reus, new partner of the UNESCO Housing Chair of URV

The agreement was signed during the 6th Seminar “Empty housing, squatting and community rehabilitation”.

The UNESCO Housing Chair has as a new partner the City Council of Reus, after the Councilor for Social Welfare, Montserrat Vilella, the rector of the URV, Josep Anton Ferré, and the director of the Chair, Sergio Nasarre, have signed the agreement of adhesion in the celebration of this scientific seminar. In this way, the network of institutions that collaborate with the Chair for research and project development is expanded.

The signing of the agreement has taken place in the framework of the 6th Scientific Seminar “Empty homes, squatting and community rehabilitation”, where the projects of rehabilitation of homes by people who have need are being carried out in England by 110 groups organized with the support of a public program. The Pandorahub initiative has also been announced, which aims to convert empty rural properties into attractive places to live and work.

The seminar, which had a first presentation on Monday, September 25, has had three internationally recognized speakers: the professor of Savannah Law School (United States) specialist in real estate law Marc Roark, the professor of Housing Policy of the University from Birmingham and director of the Housing and Community Research Group to IASS David Mullins, and Diana Moret, founder of Pandorahub.

Presence of the UNESCO Housing Chair in the National Conference of Real Estate Agents in Zaragoza on 28 and 29 September 2017

Dr. Sergio Nasarre, Dr. Estela Rivas and Gemma Caballé, attended the National Conference organized by the General Council of Real Estate Agents in Zaragoza carried by the title “The Real Estate Union ” to deal with the current situation and the new challenges of the estate agents profession in Spain.
